FWC officers help rescue elderly woman missing for over 24 hours in Volusia County

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission offers helped to find a missing elderly woman in Volusia County.

Officers said the woman was lost for over 24 hours before she was rescued.

The search began on Old Bridge Way near Timber Creek in the Ormond Beach area.

Officers found that the small creek could not be navigated even with the shallow water boat and needed to be search on foot.

Officers said the area was searched previously but, due to thick vegetation a detailed search grid was required.

The multi-agency search effort included the Ormond, Edgewater, Port Orange and Daytona Beach Shores police departments.

Hours after arriving at the scene, FWC Officer Tony Velez found the missing woman, alert and conscious, in dense vegetation.

Police said the woman is in good condition and has been reunited with her family.

“Lt. Ben Eason showed great leadership out there,” said Maj. Jay Russel, FWC’s Northeast Regional Commander. “His team rolled up their sleeves and positioned themselves to successfully locate and save a woman’s life. I am proud of the great effort and the difference our officers make every day.”
