Friends describe woman killed by 10-year-old girl as loving, generous neighbor

ORLANDO, Fla. — A small memorial formed Tuesday at the site where police say a 10-year-old girl shot and killed a woman known by her neighbors as the “community glue.”

Those closest to 41-year-old Lashun Rodgers called her “Bones.”

Rodgers’ friend, Stacey Johnson, and other witnesses say Rodgers was just grilling out for Memorial Day at her Mercy Drive apartment when another woman, 31-year-old Lakrisha Isaac came over and started a fight.

Police say while the two women were fighting, Isaac handed her 10-year-old daughter a bag with a gun in it. They say the girl pulled the gun out of the bag and shot Rodgers twice.

Rodgers was taken to a hospital but died.

Her family and friends say Rodgers was known for giving neighborhood kids money.

“Bones was giving, loving,” Johnson said. “Bones would give you the shoes and a shirt off her back, literally.”

Isaac was arrested at the scene. She’s facing multiple charges including manslaughter by culpable negligence, child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and assault with a firearm. She’s being held in the Orange County jail on no bond.

Rodgers’ friends and family say the girl who pulled the trigger needs help, but they still want her locked up.

Police say the girl was released to DCF custody. The State Attorney’s Office will decide whether she’ll face any charges for her involvement.
