CLERMONT, FLA. — A former Central Florida police officer is accused of wiping out a fund meant to help his fellow officers, and is now facing fraud charges.

Investigators said no one noticed until nearly $50,000 had disappeared.

Officer Jeremy Kevitt, 50, had been with the Clermont Police Department since 2005. FDLE investigators said he was the union president and the only one with access to the accounts.

One of the accounts was for local charities, and the other was to help pay medical bills for an injured officer.

Investigators said the Clermont Police Department reached out after learning the accounts had been overdrawn.

Once the investigation started in April, Kevitt retired. He was arrested over the weekend.

Investigators say they believe for over six years, Kevitt used money from the accounts for himself by making withdrawals at ATMs; making debit card purchases at grocery stores, gas stations and home improvement stores; and for personal travel.

Kevitt faces charges for organized fraud and grand theft.
