Florida warns residents over storm-related scams as new hurricane season begins

ORLANDO, Fla. — We’re just two days into hurricane season and the state is urging residents to watch out for more than just storms.

Many homeowners could fall victim to contractors trying to rip them off.

State Attorney General Ashley Moody released her annual hurricane guide this week.

It includes tips on how to avoid becoming the victim of a storm-related scam.

“Not only do we want Floridians to prepare. We want them to make sure they understand how to report illegal behavior so that they can not only protect themselves from that activity, but it also protects others in their community,” Moody said.
