The state recently set aside $500 million for a new toll relief program that Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law this month. It goes into effect Sunday.

Through the program, drivers with a two-axle vehicle who have 35 toll transactions or more per month will receive a 50 percent credit to their account.
It applies to all toll roads statewide that take electronic payment with a transponder like SunPass or E-Pass.
“We want our folks who are working every day to benefit from this,” DeSantis said when he signed the bill.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation, an estimated 1.9 million drivers stand to benefit from the program, saying it will save the average customer $400 in 2023.

“This is going to be half-a-billion dollars in toll relief for commuters in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said.
State officials say the program is meant to help Floridians out with continued inflation and rising gas prices, zeroing in on workers who have long commutes to and from their jobs.
“Workers and commuters fuel our economy,” State Representative Demi Busatta Cabrera said at the bill signing. “This will put more money into their pockets.”
The program is for anyone who has a transponder in their car, even if they’re not a full-time Florida resident. It doesn’t cover motorcycles or company vehicles.
