Florida surpasses 17K deaths linked to coronavirus, adds 4,600 new cases

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health has linked another 46 deaths to COVID-19, pushing the state’s death toll to 17,043.

That figure includes 209 people who died of the virus in Florida but were not state residents.

Monday’s data showed an increase compared to the number of deaths reported Sunday, when health officials noted 28 casualties statewide.

Nine local residents were among to latest to die, including two each from Seminole, Polk and Volusia counties and one each from Orange, Marion and Flagler counties.

“Coronavirus

The most recent data also revealed 4,651 new cases of the virus, a slight decrease from the 4,865 cases reported on Sunday.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 812,063 cases of COVID-19 in Florida. and 5,411,797 negative test results have been recorded.

Nov. 3 is Election Day and while millions of Floridians have already voted by mail or took advantage of early voting, many others will head out to their local precincts on Tuesday.
