ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida reported a surge of nearly 1,700 new coronavirus cases Thursday as well as 47 additional deaths.
The state’s total case numbers have now reached 69,069 with 2,849 deaths.
In Central Florida, Orange County saw the largest daily jump in cases with 136 more. But the county said it is now adding cases of people testing positive for the antibody to its case numbers. That means people who have already fully recovered from the virus are being counted as “new” cases.
Seminole County also saw a sizeable jump in positive cases, reporting 36 new positive tests since Wednesday. County officials said case numbers have spiked in recent days, causing concern and increased calls for proper social distancing, hand-washing and wearing of face coverings.
Of the 47 deaths reported Thursday, two were in Central Florida, both in Polk County.
