ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida reported 11,423 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday as points of distribution, or “PODS,” for the vaccine continue to open throughout Florida.
The newest cases include 2,368 in Central Florida.

The latest data also report 207 more virus-related deaths in the state, bringing Florida’s death toll since the pandemic began to 26,456.
The deaths reported Thursday include 60 in Central Florida, with 24 of those in Orange County alone.

Thursday also marked the first day of operation for a COVID-19 vaccine point of distribution, or “POD,” near Kissimmee.
Gov. Ron DeSantis said the PODS are part of the state’s plan to increase the speed of vaccine distribution.

The first POD in the state opened at Sun City Center, a retirement community near Tampa on Wednesday. The POD at the Solivita Retirement Community near Kissimmee opened Thursday.
