ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida reported its highest single-day coronavirus case increase since July on Thursday.
The Florida Department of Health reported 10,870 new cases since Wednesday as well as 100 additional deaths.

The new case numbers mark the highest single-day increase since July 25.
The increase brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state since the pandemic began to 1,029,030. On Wednesday Florida became the third state to top the one million case mark, joining Texas and California.

Of the latest cases, 2017 were reported in Central Florida. Along with those cases, a total of 17 were reported in our area, including six in Brevard County.
The state’s total death toll is now 19,112.

Hospitalizations due to coronavirus continue to rise in Florida.
AdventHealth officials said they have about 370 people admitted with COVID-19 in their hospitals across Florida and plenty of beds available.
AdventHealth is one of the first hospitals in Florida tapped to receive the vaccine. The hospital is set to release its vaccine plans on Friday.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said nursing homes will get first dibs at the COVID-19 vaccine. After that it will be distributed to healthcare workers, followed by, if we have enough doses, people 65 and older.
But specifics on that first round still have not been made public.
The governor’s office said Thursday it would not say how many vaccine vials Florida will be getting on this first round or at all.
