Florida reports 9 COVID-19-related deaths, 2,500 new cases of the virus

ORLANDO, Fla. — State health officials on Sunday announced nine additional deaths in Florida, from illness linked to COVID-19.

That’s down from the 63 deaths included in Saturday’s data released by the Florida Department of Health.

The state’s death toll now stands at 13,459.

The latest data also showed a drop of more than a thousand when looking at daily cases. Officials reported 2,521 new cases Sunday, compared to 3,573 cases the previous day.

Since the pandemic began, the number of coronavirus cases recorded statewide totals 683,754.

Of the latest 9 deaths in Florida, 4 involved Central Florida residents, including two in Volusia County and one each in Brevard and Marion counties.

To date, the number of negative tests recorded by state health officials totals 4,411,335, an increase of 24,014 since Saturday.

Volusia: 10,519 (+24)  - 220 deaths (+2)

Brevard: 8,395 (+43)  -  277 deaths (+1)

Flagler: 1,653 (+11) - 23 deaths (0)

Lake: 7,293 (+31) – 169 deaths (0)

Marion: 9,431 (+30) - 260 deaths (+1)

Sumter: 2,163 (+9)  -  65 deaths
