ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida has crossed another grim milestone in the coronavirus pandemic.
With 180 more deaths reported since Thursday, the state’s death toll now exceeds 8,000.
The Florida Department of Health reports 8,051 people have lost their lives statewide due to virus-related illnesses.
Data released Friday also showed another 7,686 positive tests for COVID-19 throughout Florida.
That’s on par with the number of cases reported a day earlier -- 7,650.

Of the 180 statewide deaths, 30 involved local residents, including 12 in Orange County, six in Brevard County, four in Osceola County, three in Marion County, two in Volusia County and one each in Seminole, Lake and Sumter counties.

Officials said the number of positive tests in Florida to date totals 518,075.
Every Central Florida county has surpassed 1,000 total cases of COVID-19.
