Florida reports 11,500 new COVID-19 cases; 2 local counties reach 1,000 recorded deaths

Florida reports 11.5K new COVID-19 cases, 2 Central Florida counties reach 1,000 recorded deaths Health officials added 215 virus-related deaths on Friday, including five people who were not Florida residents.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health reported 11,543 new COVID-19 cases on Friday.

Of the new cases reported, 2,464 were in Central Florida. Orange County reported the most cases with 736.

According to state records, 1,763,873 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Florida since the start of the pandemic.

Florida also reported 62,732 additional negative test results on Friday, bringing the state’s total of negative tests recorded to 8,596,715.

Health officials also added 215 virus-related deaths, including five people who were not Florida residents.

Sumter County reported 19 new deaths. There were 17 death in Polk County and 11 in Orange County.

State records show more than 1,000 people have died in both Polk County and Orange County since the start of the pandemic. Polk County reports 1,008 total deaths; Orange County reports 1,001.

According to state records, 27,913 people have died from COVID-19 complications in Florida since the start of the pandemic.
