LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake County Sheriff’s Office investigators say they’ve made an arrest in a nearly four-year-old murder case.

Deputies responded to a home on Rising Star Drive in Clermont on Sept. 20, 2019 for reports of a shooting.

They arrived to find the victim, Miriam Ortiz, lying in the driveway of the home with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Through witness interviews, surveillance video, and cell phone records, investigators say they were able to identify Ortiz’ then-boyfriend, 30-year-old Jude Alexandre as the shooter.

Deputies say cell phone records also show Alexandre fled to New York immediately after the shooting and only recently returned to Central Florida.
Alexandre was taken into custody Wednesday on a charge of premeditated murder.

He’s being held in the Lake County jail on no bond.
