Florida House: Here’s who is running in Central Florida

Five districts in Central Florida will have their Florida House of Representatives seats up for grabs in the November election.

Channel 9 compiled information about each of the local candidates you’ll see on the ballot. Click each candidates' name for more information. Find out everything you need to know below.

District 30:

Joy Goff-Marcil, Democrat, incumbent

Goff-Marcil was elected to serve District 30 in November 2018. She has a degree in political science and worked for 27 years as a local attorney. Before becoming a state representative, Joy served six years on the Maitland City Council.

Bob Cortes, Republican

Cortes was elected to the Longwood City Commission in 2009 and served two terms. In 2014, Bob was selected to serve as the mayor of Longwood. He served as a member of Florida’s legislature from 2014 to 2018.

District 32:

Anthony Sabatini, Republican, incumbent

Sabatini is from Howey-in-the-Hills. Before being elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2018, he served as a city commissioner in Eustis from 2016 to 2018.

Stephanie Dukes, Democrat

Dukes was born and raised in Polk County before attending the University of South Florida. She spent years working as an occupational specialist with school districts across the state. She and her family retired to Lake County in 2000.

District 47:

Anna Eskamani, Democrat, incumbent

Born and raised in Orlando, Eskamani is the daughter of Iranian immigrants. She was elected to the Florida State House to represent District 47 in 2018. She is a PhD student in Public Affairs at UCF, serves as an adjunct professor and works full time at NEO Philanthropy. In 2019, she sponsored 10 bills herself and co-sponsored more than sixty. In 2020, she sponsored 17 bills and co-sponsored more than 100.

Jeremy Sisson, Republican

Sisson is an entrepreneur, small business owner and commercial real estate expert. He works as the chief executive officer of Evan James and Associates and is responsible for the business' vision, long-term strategy and growth. He has 20 years of business experience.

District 49:

Carlos Guillermo Smith, Democrat, incumbent

Guillermo Smith is a graduate of the University of Central Florida. In November 2016, he made history as Florida’s first openly-LGBTQ Latino lawmaker, representing House District 49 in East Orlando. Since then, he co-founded and was elected chairman of the Legislative Progressive Caucus.

Robert Prater, Republican

Prater has worked for decades as a public school teacher in Orange County. He said he is running for the Florida House to give a voice to teachers.

District 50:

Rene Plasencia, Republican, incumbent

Plasencia was born and raised in Orlando. For 15 years, he dedicated himself to teaching and coaching at Colonial High School. He was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2014.

Nina Yoakum, Democrat

A former Orange County Public Schools substitute teacher and mental health professional, Yoakum currently serves as an appointed member of the OCPS Calendar Committee. She also serves as a block captain in the Avalon Park Neighborhood Watch and was recognized with the Block Captain Award for excellence in advocacy.
