Florida highway troopers trying to find out who was behind wheel in hit-and-run that killed teen

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 13-year-old boy on his way to a sleepover was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

Highway patrol troopers are now trying to find out who was behind the wheel.

The accident happened along Montello Drive in the Arbor Ridge West subdivision near State Road 417 and Econ Trail.

Neighbors said speeding is a problem on those residential streets. Troopers have been slowing down cars all day in the neighborhood where the hit-and-run happened.

Scrape marks were left on the street after the impact. Now, investigators are searching for evidence to identify the driver who killed the child.

The 13-year-old was riding his bike to a sleepover with a friend when he was hit and killed.

The father of the surviving teen told Channel 9 his son’s friend was thrown from the bike the length of three homes upon impact.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office found the car less than a mile away. There is front-end damage consistent with a crash. The victim’s bike is also being checked for evidence.

Authorities were out all day Thursday, talking with neighbors and reviewing surveillance video, hoping to find evidence that will lead them to an arrest.
