ORLANDO, Fla. — High school athletes will be allowed to begin practice next week as planned for fall sports if their school allows it.
The Florida High School Athletic Association made that decision after more than four hours of debate.

The association board voted on a motion that would allow schools to still practice July 27 if they want, but they can also start later or even extend their regular season past the start of the state playoff series, if they agree not to participate in the state series.
Each school can decide when it’s safe to start. The association wanted to give schools flexibility on making that decision.
The Fall Sports Task Force recommended a delay that was voted down, opening the door to hours of discussion.
