Channel 9 certified meteorologist George Waldenberger visited the coast to assess the damage.

He said a familiar theme every time we get a hurricane or even a tropical storm is damage to our piers along the coast, and Ian was no different.

Even though Hurricane Ian has moved far away, those waves are still battering the coast.

Massive waves battered Flagler Beach Friday, a day after Hurricane Ian ripped the far end off of the iconic pier.

As debris washed around in the surf, crowds formed to watch surfers jump in these rough waters.

Hurricane Ian was just offshore Thursday, but the coastal flooding and beach erosion will continue for the next few tide cycles.

The Flagler Beach police chief said the pier will remain closed until further notice and that no current decision to repair or replace the pier has been made.

The pier was originally set to come down in 2023 and be replaced in time for the Flagler City centennial in 2025.
