FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Flagler County Fire Rescue hosted a traditional ‘push in’ ceremony of its newest rescue vehicle in Bunnell Saturday.
A traditional “push in” ceremony is when firefighters push a new truck or “apparatus” into the fire station before it is officially put into service.

The tradition dates back to the 1800′s when fire departments used horse-drawn equipment to fight fires.
After returning from a fire, crews had to unhook the equipment from the horses and then push the equipment back into the fire house by hand.

“In the fire service, we try to stick with tradition to preserve the past,” said Fire Chief Michael Tucker.
