The fire department said the person was trapped in a six-story blind shaft elevator.

Officials said a blind shaft elevator indicates no external access to the elevator car, and the crew cannot reach the car from the operating floor.

Firefighters said they had to establish a rope rescue system.

Firefighters said they were rappelled down to the elevator car and successfully extricated the trapped person swiftly and without incident.
