Firefighters stress space heater safety as cold snap continues in Central Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. — As strong cold fronts continue to impact Central Florida, local firefighters are stressing the importance of space heater safety.

Leaders with Orange County Fire Rescue shared some tips this week on how to use them safely.

Fire officials said you should always keep them away from kids, pets, and anything flammable.

Also, space heaters should never be plugged in with an extension cord. Instead, they should be plugged directly into the wall.

Don’t put your space heater on the carpet because that could increase the fire risk.

Firefighters said users should always turn their space heaters off and unplug them when they leave their homes.
