SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Three people died, and one was seriously injured in a fatal crash early Saturday morning in Sumter County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened just around 3:56 a.m. on SR-471 south of South Grade Road.
A 42-year-old male was driving a sedan southbound on SR-471. For unknown reasons, he entered the northbound lane, crashing nearly head-on into another sedan – with three passengers inside- that was traveling in that lane.

Investigators said the two cars rotated and ended in the northbound lane and east shoulder.
The 42-year-old male driver of the sedan and the other driver, a 42-year-old female, died at the scene, according to the crash report.
The female driver was traveling with two other passengers, a 54-year-old female, and a 47-year-old male. According to FHP, they were all from Lima, Ohio.

The two passengers were taken to the hospital with fatal injuries.
The 54-year-old woman later died from crash injuries.
Troopers said this crash remains under investigation.
