BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two people have died, and one was seriously injured in a crash Saturday afternoon in Brevard County.

Troopers said the crash happened around 4:18 p.m. near the intersection of US-1 and Jefferson Street.
An 89-year-old man from Mississippi was driving a Chevrolet HHR with his passenger, an 82-year-old woman, when they were stopped westbound on Jefferson Street at US-1.
The second car, a Pontiac Grand Prix sedan driven by a 78-year-old woman, was traveling northbound on US-1 approaching Jefferson Street in the outside lane.

According to a news release, the Chevrolet driver failed to yield at the stop sign and made a left turn to go south on US-1.
As a result, the front of the Pontiac crashed with the left front side of the Chevrolet.
The Chevrolet driver and the passenger were transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center.

FHP said the 89-year-old man died at the hospital from his injuries and the 82-year-old passenger is in critical condition.
The Pontiac driver was transported to Parrish Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

All lanes of US-1 were closed in the area while troopers investigated what led up to the crash but have since reopened.
