FHP: 1 dead, 1 hurt after head-on crash in Groveland

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A woman died Monday following a head-on crash in Lake County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

It happened shortly after noontime along County Road 33 in Groveland.

Troopers said the crash involved a Chevrolet HHR SUV and a Ford Fusion sedan.

According to FHP, the driver of the SUV was traveling northbound on CR-33, approaching Soto Road, when she failed to stay in her lane.

Investigators said she entered into the direct path of the sedan and the vehicles collided head-on.

First responders rushed both drivers to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The SUV’s driver, 36, of Leesburg, died from her injuries.

An FHP press release stated that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Ford Fusion, 43, of Mascotte, suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, FHP said.

The crash is still under investigation.
