FDOT to hold public meeting on Wekiva Parkway project

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting Tuesday to review the preliminary design of a section of the Wekiva Parkway project.

The meeting aims to answer the public’s questions about the eighth section of the parkway, which will include an interchange at Interstate 4. The interchange will connect to State Road 417, completing the beltway around Central Florida.

Resident Kelli Eaton said she welcomes the project.

“To alleviate some of the traffic on State Route 46 heading to Mount Dora would eventually be great for us,” Eaton said.

But residents such as Debbie Bidwell aren’t as enthusiastic about the project.

“A lot of people do talk about it and say that our homes will go down (in value) because our home will (be) right (next) to a highway,” Bidwell said. “But I don’t know.”

FDOT said the section will run 2.63 miles from Orange Boulevard to east of Rinehart Road and will include bridges, drainage and lighting features.

“To be honest, I don’t know. I feel like it’s going to go in regardless of what I say or do,” Bidwell said. “It is what it is."

During the meeting, residents may view maps and plans and have their questions answered by FDOT staff.

It’s scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Sanford’s Lakeside Fellowship United Methodist Church at 305 South Orange Boulevard.
