Fatal crash shuts down Osceola County road, troopers say

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol said both lanes are shut down on Osceola Polk Line Road following a fatal crash Saturday.

Troopers said the crash happened around 11 a.m.

According to an initial news release, a Ford van was traveling westbound on Osceola Polk Line Road near Old Lake Wilson Road.

A Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on the same road.

Investigators said it is unclear why the van veered into the path of the Explorer and hit the car.

The 41-year-old driver of the van was airlifted as a trauma alert to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

The 73-year-old man driving the Explorer was pronounced dead at the scene.

FHP said traffic investigators are still gathering evidence and will give an update as it becomes available.
