LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The most magical place on Earth is going to look even more refined this weekend.

Dapper Day outings return Saturday and Sunday for another sophisticated good time. The spring outings take place Saturday at EPCOT and Sunday at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The event is put on by Dapper Day, which in addition to the events, designs clothes and accessories. Their outings that take place a few times a year draw hundreds, maybe thousands, of additional visitors to Disney parks donning their elegant, sophisticated, or vintage-inspired best.

“It’s all about being at the park and showing off your own unique sense of style,” said Chloé Ferreira, Dapper Day producer. “We like to see uniqueness and individuality and different looks. It’s just a fun time all around.”

The outings began in 2011 when Justin J., a Los Angeles-based designer, and some of his friends decided to go to Disneyland dressed to the nines, harking back to the theme park’s conceptual art that showed guests dressed up.

Like a fashion trend, it caught on. Dapper Day outings at Disneyland went from a few hundred attendees one year to more than 1,100 the next, and have trickled into Walt Disney World in Central Florida and Disneyland Paris.

“It grew into what it is today, which is to show off your own individual style and have fun at the Disney parks,” Ferreira said.

A common misconception about Dapper Day, Ferreira said, is that its outings at the parks should adhere to a certain era.

“It doesn’t have to,” she said. “It can be from any time, anywhere. We like to see the uniqueness.”

Dapper Day outings are not “official” Disney events, but Ferreira said the parks “love it. It brings more guests to the parks.”

Still, guests participating in Dapper Day must adhere to Disney’s rules. Though Dapper Day outings encourage refined and sophisticated looks, adult guests are not allowed to wear costumes that would mistake them for cast members.

Speaking from experience, Ferreira said comfortable shoes are a must if you plan on spending hours at the park in your classic best.

“There are plenty of ways to be stylish without being uncomfortable,” Ferreira said.

Ferreira said Dapper Day has already expanded Dapper Day outings in Southern California to include non-Disney sites such as museums, and the company looks to do the same in Central Florida.
