LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lake County mail carrier is off the job over allegations that she was stealing mail, Eustis police said.

Homeowners living along Clear Lake Drive complained to the postal service after they didn’t receive packages. Federal agents began a criminal investigation, but wouldn't say if the carrier has been arrested.

Shelley Taylor told Channel 9's Julie Salomone that her daughter ordered something online last month and it never arrived.

“It said it had been delivered. So she went to the post office and at the post office, they took her information and they said they have been having a lot of problems with our route,” Taylor said.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General said authorities received information that customers in Eustis were not receiving mail.

Federal agents confirmed they’ve launched an investigation and that the contract employee is no longer delivering mail. They would not confirm her route or what addresses she delivered. Neighbors told Eyewitness News that the carrier has been on the route for more than 20 years.

Taylor received a letter from federal agents Friday afternoon notifying her that they’re conducting an on going a criminal investigation. Attached to the letter was her daughter’s missing mail, but agents would not say where the mail was found.
