Empty parking lots, shopping malls during Orange County’s first full day under stay-at-home order

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9 reporter Cierra Putman took to the ground and the skies to find out how different Orange County looked on its first day under a stay-at-home order due to the coronavirus.

Winter Park’s Park Avenue was quiet Friday afternoon.

Richard Pannullo, the chef and owner of Pannullo’s, said the area felt different Friday with no one around.

“As long as we’re permitted to sell food for takeout we’re going to make it through this just fine,” said owner and manager Michael Schwartz.

Area malls and outlets and International Drive were virtual ghost towns as seen from the air.

Lake Eola had residents walking and working out, while other parks were more quiet.

At Dubsdread Golf Course, people were golfing together but riding alone in golf carts.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Orlando police said they plan to give people warnings if they don’t follow the stay-at-home rules, but officers have the option to fine or jail violators if they don’t heed warnings.
