ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — A 58-year-old Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University professor was jailed Friday on 10 counts of child abuse, the Ormond Beach Police Department said.
Mark Fugler, a civil engineering professor at the school’s Daytona Beach campus, was arrested on several warrants, police said.
Investigators charged Fugler with child abuse and sex charges, including lewd and lascivious conduct, showing obscene material to a minor and lewd or lascivious exhibition in the presence of a child younger than 16.
A university spokesman said Fugler was hired in 1996.
“University officials will fully cooperate with law enforcement authorities on this investigation,” the spokesman said in a statement. “We are working on more information to release.”
Fugler was placed on administrative leave pending further investigation, the school said.
He was jailed in lieu of a combined $550,000 bail.
No other details were given.
