Drinking hours could be cut short for Cinco de Mayo crowds as new rules kick in at Orlando bars

ORLANDO, Fla. — Starting Friday, the City of Orlando said it plans to begin enforcing its new permit system for downtown bars.

Bar operators now need a special permit to sell alcohol after midnight.

The city recently told Channel 9 that 94% of eligible businesses have submitted applications for the permit.

So far, just over half have been issued one.

Bar owners said they expect big crowds Friday night, thanks to Cinco de Mayo.

While the new rules officially kicked in on May 1, city leaders said the crackdown on businesses would be in place for the weekend.
