DeSantis, new Florida surgeon general announce new school COVID-19 quarantine policy

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis hosted a news conference at NeoCity Academy near Kissimmee on Wednesday afternoon to announce a change to the school quarantine policy.

DeSantis was joined by Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran and Dr. Joe Ladapo, whom the governor appointed Tuesday as the state’s new surgeon general and health secretary.

Ladapo signed off on new school quarantine rules on Wednesday that give parents the choice of whether or not to quarantine their children after they’ve been exposed to COVID-19. Read more about the policy change here.

Ladapo comes to Florida from California, where he has been highly critical of lockdowns and an advocate for less-proven COVID-19 treatments. Click here to read more about him.

He is a physician with a background in health policy, and his writings on COVID-19 are much more in line with DeSantis, which was an issue with the previous surgeon general.
