DeSantis proposes $1.5B fix for slow-moving traffic on I-4 in Osceola County

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Work to jumpstart traffic on a usually congested stretch of I-4 could begin as soon as next year.

A new traffic study by the Florida Department of Transportation confirmed that traffic is slow-going on I-4 through Osceola County. However, the governor has a new proposal to spend nearly $1.5 billion to fix it.

The traffic assessment found that on any day between 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., cars are traveling only up to 10 MPH across that stretch.

FDOT said as long at the governor’s plan is passed, construction to fix this issue will start next year.

FDOT said this is one of 20 projects across the state that DeSantis is prioritizing, most of which are in counties seeing significant population growth.
