UMATILLA, Fla. — Deputies had an increased presence at Umatilla High School Monday after a shooting threat was etched into the walls of a bathroom stall on campus, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.

The vague message warned of a shooting that would take place at the school Monday, Lake County Lt. John Herrell said.

“We have increased our presence on the campus today to include nine deputies and one Umatilla police officer,” he said.

Administrators learned of the threat late Saturday, and they notified teachers and parents Sunday afternoon, said Sherri Owens, a school district spokeswoman.

“Some leads have been established,” Herrell said. “And deputies are working to follow up on those leads in hopes of identifying the person responsible.”

The incident continues to be investigated.
