ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is releasing more information about the man accused of killing a 93-year-old woman.

Sheriff John Mina said he thinks the suspect should face the death penalty.
Dolores Padilla Marrero, 93, was murdered on her birthday on Sunday. She’s described as a kind and devout Catholic, always willing to help others, including her accused killer.
Javier Martinez, 54, is the prime suspect in the case.

Homicide detectives said they found a necklace belonging to Martinez wrapped in a T-shirt near Marrero’s body. They also found Marrero’s missing keys in the apartment where Martinez was arrested.
We found out that Marrero’s daughter, Martinez’s on-and-off girlfriend, told deputies that she and Martinez had gotten a fight on Sunday and that she suspected he was on drugs at the time.

Eyewitness News did some digging to learn more about Martinez. Court documents show traffic violations, a suspended license and a petty theft charge on his record in Orange County.
Channel 9 asked Mina about Martinez’s past charges.
“He’s got a number of arrests from different states we’re looking into. Nothing violent we’ve seen,” Mina said.

Deputies also told Eyewitness News that Martinez didn’t confess to killing Marrero, but he told police that he was on drugs and blacked out.
