HOLLY HILL, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says a deadly officer-involved shooting is under investigation. Read updates below:

6 p.m. update
The man’s mother said that he had schizophrenia and that he was hearing voices that were telling him to kill people.
In a 911 call, she warned dispatchers that her son was dangerous.
“I will be honest with you -- he’s only been out of jail a week since he attacked the last police man,” she said.
“I have a steak knife,” the man can be heard saying in bodycam video.

“Can you put it down?” an officer said.
“No, I am going to kill you with it,” the man then said.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office is currently in control of the Holly Hill Police Department while the former chief and others are being investigated for their alleged involvement in inappropriate incidents.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said it has been a seamless transition, saying that the officers now have access to all of his agency’s resources.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office released a body camera video showing the deadly officer-involved shooting.

The incident happened Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. on Ridgewood Avenue in Holly Hill.
Deputies said the man who was shot and killed was armed with a steak knife and threatening himself and others.

A witness told police the man had threatened to kill her before and, at that time, was threatening to go outside and stab a woman.

Officers said when they arrived, they held the man at gunpoint, and shots were fired moments later.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene, and no other injuries were reported.

Deputies said they will release body camera video and additional details on Wednesday.
