Man arrested in fatal early morning shooting in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Update: A man has been arrested in a fatal shooting that happened on Tymberwood Lane in Orange County overnight.

Donald Willis, 27, was arrested on a warrant for second-degree murder with a firewarm.

The victim, 38-year-old Lavance Smith, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

A man was shot and killed early Tuesday at an Orlando-area apartment complex, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to the Tymber Skan complex off Texas Avenue just before 2 a.m.

At the scene, they determined someone had been shot along Tymberwood Lane.

Investigators said the male victim, whom they did not identify, died at a hospital.

OCSO said it had no information to release about a suspect in the case, as the shooter took off before deputies arrived.

The Tymber Skan complex has developed a bad reputation for murders, squatters, and arson over the years.

In 2014, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, who was Orange County Sheriff at the time, was giving a press conference on the problems when gun shots were fired nearby.

Since 2013, several dozen units have been demolished by Orange County.

Taxpayers have covered the costs for much of that project.
