Deputies investigating after man found dead in Deltona lake

DELTONA, Fla. — The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was found dead in a Deltona lake Sunday.

Deputies said they were called to the area near Peru Court after a neighbor said they saw a man floating in Theresa Lake just after 9 a.m.

Investigators said they found an elderly male floating facedown about 30 yards from the shore when they arrived.

Deputies identified the man as 67-year-old Richard Barker of Deltona.

Neighbors told deputies that they saw Barker alone on his pontoon boat Saturday afternoon and didn’t appear to see anything strange.

Deputies said there were no signs of foul play in Barker’s death but that alcohol may have been a factor.
