Deputies said they were called shortly before 8:45 a.m. to the home at Kaiser Avenue and Quail Roost Road after a relative reported that their son, Trace Norwood Woxberg, 26, was threatening to commit suicide.

When investigators arrived at the home, they said they discovered Woxberg armed with a gun. They said they ordered him to drop the weapon, but he shot himself.

Before opening fire, he told them, “Please don’t shoot my dog.”

Deputies said they discovered Hanna Elizabeth Riggins, 19, near Woxberg.

They said Riggins’ face was bruised, she was unconscious and she was not breathing.

“Life saving measures were performed. However, those measures were unsuccessful,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, and Woxberg was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center, where he was also pronounced dead.

Sheriff Marcos Lopez said Tuesday that he believes Woxberg and Riggins were in a relationship but were not married.

There is no past history of domestic violence-related calls to the home, he said.

The Osceola County Medical Examiner determined that Riggins’ cause of death was blunt force trauma and Woxberg’s cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
