Deputies arrest man months after woman found shot to death in West Melbourne

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. — Travion Dean of Fort Pierce is in custody, charged with first-degree premeditated murder without bond, for the death of Aniya Sheppard.

Deputies said 22-year-old Travion Dean of Fort Pierce was arrested for the shooting death of 20-year-old Aniya Sheppard.

Sheppard was found dead in the early morning hours of Nov. 4 on the ground near Eder Boulevard and Buddy Drive.

Dean was arrested Thursday in Fort Lauderdale as he reentered the country from Jamaica, according to a report.

He was taken to the Brevard County Jail on charges of premeditated first-degree murder.

Investigators said Sheppard and Dean had been in a prior romantic relationship and were staying at the Extended Stay America motel on US 192 in West Melbourne.

Deputies said evidence shows the two shared a rideshare vehicle before the shooting, and Dean returned to the motel alone afterward.
