Deputies arrest man in killing at Orlando Econo Lodge homicide, investigators say

ORLANDO, Fla. — Update: Orange County deputies have arrested Julio Cuenca, 28, for the death of Amber Carruthers. He faces second-degree murder charges.

Previous story:

Orange County deputies on Thursday released a photo of a man they are calling a person of interest in the killing of a 32-year-old mother found dead in an Orange Blossom Trail Econo Lodge.

Amber Carruthers was found in a room at the hotel near the Florida Mall at about 11:10 a.m. on June 17.

The person of interest is a man seen on security video following Carruthers down the hall of the hotel, deputies said.

Carruthers’ manner of death has not been released, but investigators said she suffered some sort of trauma.

The man in the video is distinctive in the way he moves and Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Fabian Ramirez hoped someone will recognize him, despite the low quality of the video.

“I know it’s not the highest resolution video, but if somebody knows him and sees the way he’s walking, you’ll be able to tell right away if it’s him,” Ramirez said.

Anyone with information on the identity of the man shown in the video is asked to contact Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.
