FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — A Jacksonville man accused of stealing a street sweeper was arrested in Flagler County after leading deputies on a three-hour chase.
On Monday, deputies said that 18-year-old Sterling Orlando Davis-Jones of Jacksonville committed an armed carjacking of a street sweeper in Daytona Beach just after 4 a.m.

After being notified by Daytona Beach police to “be on the lookout” for the vehicle, deputies spotted the stolen truck near Point Pleasant Drive near Palm Coast.

Deputies said they saw the driver, later identified as Davis-Jones, jump from the truck and run into some nearby woods with a gun in his hand.
The sheriff’s office communications center began using Reverse 911 and social media to notify residents of the search for the suspected carjacker.
While searching for the suspect, dispatchers got a call from a resident saying that a man fitting the description of the car thief was walking in his backyard.

Deputies responded to the area and spotted Davis-Jones running down Point of Woods Drive onto Belle Terre Parkway.
A deputy was able to catch up to Davis-Jones on foot before tackling him. The two men fell into a mud-filled ditch.
Both Davis-Jones and the deputy were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

According to deputies, Davis-Jones is no stranger to law enforcement and has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 2014.
Davis-Jones was booked into the Flagler County jail on several felony charges and is being held without bond.
