According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the 14-year-old boy’s parents first noticed he was gone from their home around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

While searching for the boy, deputies say his parents found what turned out to be 41-year-old Kristen Williams’ phone number on their home’s incoming call log.

Deputies say the boy returned home- apparently under the influence of marijuana- shortly after his mother called the number.

According to the sheriff’s office, the boy later admitted that he’d met with Williams near his neighborhood and smoked with her in her van. He said Williams returned him to his home after they noticed his mother calling her phone.

The sheriff’s office identified Williams as an office assistant who works with sixth graders at Heritage Middle School.

Williams told investigators she acts as a mentor at the school and regularly communicates with students through a group chat.

She told deputies the 14-year-old boy she met Wednesday had previously been in her van and at her home to spend time with her own son.

No allegations of sexual abuse were made.

Williams was arrested Wednesday on charges of child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
