2 dead after Orange County wrong-way crash at SR-417

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two people have died following a crash along State Road 417 in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said shortly after 2 a.m., a BMW was traveling on the SR-417 southbound ramp leading to westbound State Road 528 on Friday.

A Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on the same exit ramp.

According to a news release, as both cars were turning on the curve, the BMW hit the front of the Hyundai, and the BMW caught on fire.

Investigators said both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, including the 29-year-old man driving the Hyundai.

FHP is working to identify the BMW driver, and the crash is still under investigation.

Troopers said there is no longer any roadblocks.
