The employee who was shot died of their injuries and the suspect -- whom police described as a regular customer who was familiar with the victim -- was taken to a hospital.

Daytona Beach police Chief Jakari Young said that detectives are trying to determine if the employee who returned fire shot the suspect in self-defense.

“The community is safe, because we do have the suspect in custody,” he said.

Young said the shooting does not appear to be a robbery.

None of the people involved in the shooting have been publicly identified.
