A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday, with local officials in attendance including Daytona Beach Mayor Derrick Henry and State Rep. Tom Leek.

The project will widen International Speedway Boulevard between the Halifax River Bridge and S.R. A1A to provide two travel lanes, a 5-foot-wide bicycle lane, a 6-foot-wide sidewalk headed westbound, and a 10-foot-wide sidewalk headed eastbound.

“The length of this project is less than a mile, which may seem small to some outside of this community, but I have a saying at the department, ‘There are no small projects.’ Every project is important and impactful to the community that it’s in and this project is no exception,” said DOT District Five Secretary John Tyler. “This is not just an FDOT project. It’s a true community project. Focusing on our communities is a core value of FDOT. We are proud to work with our local communities, their leaders, and stakeholders to build strong partnerships that lead to exceptional projects. FDOT does its best work when partnering with our communities.”
