Deputies: 6 hurt in Deltona head-on crash

DELTONA, Fla. — Several people were seriously injured in an overnight traffic crash in Deltona, Volusia Sheriff’s Office said.

It happened near Veterans Memorial Park.

Deputies responded to Elkcam Boulevard and Evard Avenue around 2:45 a.m. Monday.

VSO said a total of two vehicles and six people were involved.

Investigators said they believe a Toyota sedan, traveling at a high rate of speed on Elkcam Boulevard, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck an Acura sedan head-on.

Four patients in the Toyota, all 21 years old, and two occupants of the Acura, ages 51 and 36, were hospitalized, according to VSO.

The crash, which shut down a stretch of Elkcam Boulevard until late morning, remains under investigation.
