ORLANDO, Fla. — Pfizer’s two-shot COVID-19 vaccine has been given approval by the Food and Drug Administration but only for people 16 and older. With cases spiking in schools, many are asking how long until younger children can get the shot.
“If you’re one of the millions of Americans who said that they will not get the shot until it has full and final approval of the FDA, it’s now happened. The moment you’ve been waiting for is here,” President Joe Biden said.

Central Florida residents ages 12 and older can get a vaccine at Camping World Stadium on Tuesday.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director said a COVID-19 vaccine for children between ages 5 and 11 could be ready by November.

“That seems like a reasonable timeline to me,” Rochelle Walensky said. “Again, we don’t want to get ahead of the FDA right now. The best way to keep our children under the age of 12 safe is to vaccinate all the people who are around them and to have them wear masks when they attend schools.”

Pfizer’s CEO said the company is now developing a vaccine targeting the delta variant, just in case it is needed.
