ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — You probably know someone who was fully vaccinated but still caught COVID-19.

Some people now have a third dose and are still getting infected.
However, doctors stress the majority of people with breakthrough infections fight off the virus fine.

“We’re seeing breakthrough infections on the rise,” data scientist Dr. Eric Solomon said. “They are becoming a significant portion of all the infections that we see.”
In the past 30 days, breakthrough infections have accounted for approximately 30% of all Florida cases.
“That number is probably going to only increase,” said Dr. Rajiv Bahl, emergency medicine physician. “We are starting to hear about breakthrough cases. However, those individuals are not getting hospitalized.”

Bahl is pushing for people to get their vaccines and boosters.
“The vaccine is there to protect you from severe life-threatening illness. While it does protect you in many cases from getting COVID-19 in the first place, preventing that severe and life-threatening illness is what’s the most important thing.”
