WEDGEFIELD, Fla. — Some Wedgefield residents say they are facing water bills that are up to 200% higher than they should be, and now they’re asking Orange County to step in.
Community members say they have been dealing with concerns about the private water system serving the area, including questions about the quality of their water and the cost of service.
A proposed deal to transfer the private system to a government-run utility recently fell apart, leaving residents looking for another solution.
Now, community members are asking the county to consider buying the system while residents continue paying for their water service.
Residents say they believe county ownership could provide greater oversight of the system and help address their concerns about billing and water quality.
The request comes as neighbors continue to push for answers about why some water bills are significantly higher than expected and what can be done to improve the system.
For residents, the issue is about more than the monthly bill. They say they want reliable service, accurate billing and confidence in the water coming out of their taps.
