Volunteers gathered Friday at Northland Church in Longwood to host a drive-thru event to distribute essential cold-weather supplies.
The event began promptly at 10 a.m., with seniors arriving as early as 9:30 a.m. to receive the much-needed items.
Each attendee was provided with a space heater, two sweatshirts, and a bag filled with additional items to help them stay warm during the colder days.
Volunteers were on hand to distribute the supplies and offered prayers for the seniors before they departed.
Gail Rose, one of the recipients, expressed her gratitude: “I’m so grateful for these gifts. It’s wonderful to see the community come together to support us.”
The Senior Resource Alliance, serving Central Florida since 1995, coordinated the event. They work to provide services and resources for elders in Brevard, Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties, aiming to help them age with independence and dignity.
Karla Radka of the Senior Resource Alliance emphasized the organization’s mission: “Our goal is to ensure that seniors in our community have the resources they need to live comfortably and safely, especially during the colder months.”
Be The Change For Seniors, another key partner in the initiative, focuses on improving the quality of life for seniors through various support services. Toni Boni from the organization noted, “It’s heartening to see the smiles on their faces. A little warmth can make a big difference.”
Over the course of two hours, dozens of seniors benefited from the distribution, highlighting the community’s dedication to its elder members.
As temperatures continue to dip, events like these play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of our senior population.
